On Saturday, December 5 we joined the Adkersons for
breakfast with Santa. I wasn't sure how the actual meeting with Santa would go. Jack is obsessed with Santa Claus, but for the last two years he has not been at all interested in actually meeting him face-to-face. As you can see in the picture below, Jack was quite a brave fellow this year! He told him that he wanted a big boy bike. When Santa asked what color, Jack said, "Blue." I sure am glad Santa hadn't already had the elves paint it before he asked!
At the breakfast, the youth group sets up a
Gingerbread Store. It is a room full of donated stuff in which the children can go shopping for gifts for their parents and siblings. Everything costs $1, and it allows the children to buy gifts for their parents without someone else telling them what to get. The children often end up making rather odd choices, but it is a really fun way to teach gift giving.
Anyway, I sent Jack into the store with $3 so he could buy something for me, Brent, and Joe. When he came out, he ran up to me and excitedly blurted out, "I got you a..." I quickly tried to stop him and explained that it would be a surprise for me to open on Christmas morning (though I think I heard him say what I'm getting.) He was a little bummed to have to wait. (Last year he told me in advance that he had bought me "rings for my ears.")
We have since wrapped the gifts, and last night Brent asked him which of the presents under the tree was his. Jack picked up the small rectangular box that Aunt Bec helped him wrap, and we reminded him not to tell Daddy what it is. We said he could give him some hints about what it is. So, Jack said, "It is round (long pause)....it is NOT fuzzy," (So far so good, I thought), "And, you hit it with a golf club!" So, maybe we need to work on the art of giving hints!
On Wednesday, December 9 Jack's school did their
Christmas Program. Jack had been practicing the songs in the car for several weeks, and I was excited to see the performance. (Brent got there early to get front row seats. Naturally, Jack was on the extreme opposite side of the stage from our seats, so the pictures aren't great.) He really seemed to enjoy himself!
